"SECRETS OF THE WOODS" is a series of paintings that I have been working on for most of 2022. It all started a few years ago when I did a four-year project with the gardens of Melk Abbey in Austria. The result was an exhibition of over 130 paintings showing my interpretations of the four seasons in these beautiful gardens. In the process I got a very intense relationship with landscape painting in general and trees in particular. All this led to a strong desire in me to study the life of trees intensively and a desire to express my feelings and perception of them. For almost two years I have been trying to find a way to express this, but it always felt wrong. Until now... In spring I started to visit the forest again, just to go there and be there.... To breathe it and feel it. I thought I would do a photo project about the trees, so I took my cameras and started photographing everything there. But the longer I was there, the more I felt I should paint it. Photography is an art form of the moment, you can freeze a moment in time, but painting is the art form of the process.... It takes time to immerse and feel. That's why I go to the forest near my town by the river almost every day now and try to feel it, hear it, smell it, breathe it.... It is as if the forest speaks to me in riddles, the trees whispering secrets to me. Secrets that I can feel but not understand. I hear them and they caress my ears and my heart and I feel safe and loved there. I do not try to understand the forest. My perception is emotional and not intellectual. I feel like I am in love and the trees sing to me. I am surrounded by the beauty of pure nature. That is what I express in these paintings. It is not a representation of the forest, but an expression of a love story."
